North Dakota Targets Water Protectors With New Laws

The North Dakota house voted in favor of a few bills specifically targeting water protectors.  This comes on the same day the Army has approved DAPL.
The house passed the controversial “Run Protesters Over” bill.  A law that protects drivers from legal repercussion in cases where protesters are struck by vehicles.  In other words, the house has basically sanctioned murder.
The law allows motorists to run over and kill any protester obstructing a highway as long as the driver doesn’t do it “intentionally”.

The House also approved bills that ban adults from wearing masks, increase penalties for rioting, trespassing, and causing damage to personal property.  These are now considered Class C felonies and can get someone up to 5 years in prison, and $10,000 in penalties.

The measures now move to the Republican-led Senate under an emergency clause – meaning these could be in effect extremely soon.

KVRR reports there have been nearly 700 protest-related arrests in North Dakota since mid-August.

EDIT: One of the bills includes causing a business economic harm of $1000 or more as a class-C felony.  So things like forcing businesses to close temporarily due to protesting, can get you 5 years in prison

2nd Edit:  These bills were actually approved Monday, February 6, 2017 – Not February 7, as mentioned originally in the article.  You can review the North Dakota house journal, detailing the bills mentioned HERE .
