Via The War Files – A large group of terrorists, affilitated with the Islamic State, stormed a city in the Philippines and engaged in intense firefights with the national army. Civilians living in Marawi City, in the south of the country, are urged to remain indoors. Twenty terrorists, reportedly from a Muslim “rebel group” called Maute, stormed the streets. Infantry units along with the Special Action Force were deployed to the city after residents in a nearby village signaled for help. President Duterte has also declared martial law and a state of emergency in the province of Mindano. General Eduardo Ano, military chief of staff, said at least one police officer was killed and eight soldiers were wounded in the fighting, but didn’t say if any of the terrorists were killed/wounded. “I’m appealing to residents of Marawi City to stay home, drop on the ground if they hear gunshots,” Mamintal Adiong Jr, the governor of the Lanao del Sur province said. Local and military reports also revealed that the terrorists entered a local hospital and raised the black Daesh flag on the roof.
