YPG and other United States-backed militias are set to capture Raqqa

Via UBC News –  YPG and other United States-backed militias are set to capture Raqqa, Daesh’s (IS) self-declared capital in Syria. YPG’s spokesperson said the offensive to seize Raqqa will begin in the next few days.⠀

The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), an alliance of fighters led by the YPG and backed by the US-led coalition, has been surrounding Raqqa since November 2016 in a multi-phased campaign to drive Daesh (IS) out from the city.⠀

The offensive on Raqqa will put even more pressure on Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi’s forces, with the extremist group facing imminent defeat in the Iraqi city of Mosul and being forced into retreat across much of Syria, where the province of Deir ez-Zor is its last major foothold.
