FBI nominee says no to witch hunt

United States President Donald Trump’s nominee to lead the FBI declined to classify the Russia investigation as a “witch hunt” during a Wednesday Senate confirmation hearing.

Christopher Wray refused the president’s claim that the inquiry into Russia’s alleged interference in the 2016 presidential election was some sort of politically motivated investigation, something Mr Trump has implied several times, most recently on Wednesday morning in a tweet.

“I do not consider Director Mueller to be on a witch hunt,” Mr Wray said about the former FBI head leading the special investigation.

Wray also said he would avoid “pulling punches” if he were confirmed as Federal Bureau of Investigation director.
