The leader of Islamic State, Abu al-Baghdadi, has been reported dead for the second time within a month. Last month, the Russian Foreign Ministry claimed it was “highly likely” that Baghdadi was killed in Russian-led airstrikes in Raqqa (May).
However, a new report from the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights claimed it had “confirmed information” that he was dead in the countryside east of Deir al-Zor, citing sources “close to Daesh.” The specific time frame of Baghdadi’s death wasn’t given.
The US also hasn’t confirmed either report. Doubt will always hang over the death of Baghdadi, because he’s been reportedly killed on at least 10 different occasions.
