Hurricane Irma makes landfall in Florida

Irma is currently a category 4 hurricane, producing catastrophic 130-mph winds of deadly force, the eye of Hurricane Irma has begun passing over Florida Keys. “We are officially in hurricane conditions… It’s time to bunker down”: Derek Van Dam from Miami Beach.

Irma is now expected to hit Floridas west coast area. Which is a different path than was originally expected. Leaving families and officials rushing to get more people evacuated safely from the area. The area of Key West & St. Petersburg haven’t been hit by a monstrous hurricane hit their coast in over a century.

More than 300,000 people in Florida were without power Sunday morning. Keys Energy Services, which supplies electricity to Key West and the Lower Florida Keys, said that all of its 29,000 customers were without power. Florida officials estimate that 6.3 million residents have evacuated the affected areas. Along with Georgia and other states evacuating.

About 540,000 people were told to leave the Georgia coast. Alabama, North Carolina and South Carolina have declared states of emergency. Along with the hurricane, there has also been an outbreak of Tornado watches across the southern region of Florida.
