Facebook sees 100 million decline in daily users for first time

For the first time ever in Facebooks history, it reported in 2017 that between its 3rd and 4th quarters it saw a decline of 185 million daily users. The drop could be a result of a steady drumbeat of negative press about Facebook, including concern over foreign governments like Israel working with Facebook to delete pages talking about its war crimes.

If usage continues to flat line, Facebook will have to add more advertising into the News Feed, charge advertisers more per impression, or figure out new business areas to maintain long-term growth.

Facebook claimed 184 million daily average users (DAUs) in the U.S. and Canada in the 2017 4th quarter , down from 185 million in the 3rd quarter.

Facebook has also announced they will be stepping up a crack down on what they deem is “fake news”. Something many independent voices are concerned about, since YouTube has done the same and has demonetized independent news sources. Many are worried about who gets to determine what real and fake news is. Saying this is how state propaganda gets out in place relying only on your state approved facts.
