Reports are coming in that an Israeli F-16 fighter has been shot down by Syrian anti-aircraft systems on a raid to destroy Iranian facilities allegedly responsible for launching a drone into Israel.
The attack caused the pilots to eject from the fighter jet, they were injured and taken to a hospital. Northern Israel sounded its alarms as a result of the nearby Syrian fire.
Israeli military spokesman Jonathan Conricus went to Twitter to say that Iran was “responsible for this severe violation of Israeli sovereignty”. See his tweet below:
In a different military statement it said that Israeli forces had identified an “Iranian UAV” launched from Syria and had intercepted it in Israeli airspace with a combat helicopter.
The military was “monitoring events and is fully prepared for further action”.
Syria has constantly been protesting Israeli attacks on targets inside of their country.
Earlier this week, Israeli warplanes attacked military targets near Damascus from Lebanese airspace, with the Syrian Army claiming that it had destroyed most of the Israeli rockets.
Back in mid January of this year, Israel launched three separate attacks on military targets in Syria, using jets and ground-to-ground missiles. Damascus claimed that it shot down one Israeli jet and one missile.
