It has been revealed that United States Secretary of Defense James Mattis was the target of a rocket attack at Kabul Airport. However, the rockets landed several hours after the Secretary’s arrival and he was not in the vicinity of the airport during the attack.

Secretary General of NATO Jens Stoltenberg is also in the country and was not injured by the attack. Both the Taliban and ISIS have claimed responsibility for the attack.

WASHINGTON: Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders is expected to fully unveil the details of his “Medicare for all” bill on Wednesday, along with co-sponsors and supporters such California Senator Kamala Harris and Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts.⠀

The bill has drawn much admiration from the left and scorn from the right, however, the bill has gained significant support from even more moderate liberals in the Senate, signaling that perhaps if Democrats seize the chamber in 2018 it’s passage might become a reality. ⠀

Leaked memo points at Emmanuel lobbying for Amazon to build new HQ in Chicago

CHICAGO: Rahm Emmanuel is reportedly lobbying for Amazon to place it’s second headquarters in Chicago, which would most likely lead to a needed boost for the town. ⠀

Leaks from city hall are already confirming that Emmanuel has personally spoken more than once with CEO Jeff Bezos, even before the commerce giant announced it was looking to spread it’s wings outside of its current location in Seattle. ⠀

Analysts speculate that this new headquarters would employ upwards of 50,000 and the construction would last years, creating thousands of other manual labor jobs in the city. Amazon has announced its willing to spend up to 5 billion on the new buildings. ⠀

Maryland resident charged with joining Somali linked IS group

A man residing in Maryland admitted to authorities that he recently traveled to Africa to join the Somali-based Al-Shabaab Islamic terror group. 32 year old Maalik Alim Jones pleaded guilty to three criminal counts before US District Judge Paul Gardephe Friday, according to the US Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York.

He was also charged with “one count of conspiring to provide material support to Al-Shabaab, one count of conspiring to receive military training from a designated foreign terrorist organization, and one count of possessing, carrying, and using a machine gun and other destructive devices during and in relation to a crime of violence.”

US military set to send forces to south Korea for training

The US military will soon have its forces deployed in South Korea train for a potential attack with the use of hazardous materials, radioactive or chemical.

The US Army’s 718th Explosive Ordnance Disposal Company (EOD) in South Korea will learn how to identify such hazardous materials, and “know how to perform basic control, containment and/or confinement operations, as well as to be able implement decontamination procedures,” according to the contract proposal, which the US Army posted on the Federal Business Opportunities website.

It’s expected to be a two-week training course, taught on-site at Camp Humphrey (South Korea). The US has around 25,000 troops deployed in the country, spread out around 80 sites. In other news, the US began the deployment of four new Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) rocket launchers in Seongju County (300km south of Seoul) in addition to the two operating there.

Hurricane watch issued for South Florida

Hurricane watch issued for parts of South Florida as Irma barrels toward South Florida. Southern Florida and the Keys are under official watch, expecting winds from the storm to hit on Saturday. Over 60 counties in Florida have already been given evacuation orders in preparation

for Irma making landfall this weekend.

Irma is currently a category 5 hurricane expected to reach winds over 200 miles per hour. Irma has already caused catastrophic damage in Barbuda, leaving it practically uninhabitable. Leaving an estimated 60% of its population homeless, with little places available for shelter after the storm. 90% of the structures on this island were practically erased from the map, leaving the island of an estimated 1,700 people completely devastated.
